Laiko Manufacturing
Laiko Manufacturing Ltd, the oldest Cypriot coffee producer, has supplied the Cypriot market with Kafes Laikou since 1948. Established by a small group of professional coffee shop keepers, they were armed only with equipment that consisted of a second hand manual roaster, a used ground millstone, a bicycle for distribution and an initial staff of 6 people.
From 1955 – 1958, the company shareholders reached 4300 and the production line was then housed in its privately owned building in the Kaimakli area of Nicosia. The second hand roaster and millstone were replaced with modern coffee roasting and grinding machinery and the bicycle was replaced by a fleet of cars distributing to the whole island.
In 1973 the Company moved to the current site in Kaimakli. During the tragic days of 1974, Laiko Manufacturing stood strong and just a few days after the initial invasion, continued producing and distributing coffee where ever possible, offering both financial and emotional support to it’s displaced employees.
Since 1975, a new impressive era of growth was seen, leading to the addition of state of the art automatic machines in the production line, some of which are still utilised today. Since then continuous upgrades and improvements have been made to the factory, to deliver the finest quality coffee to consumers. Today, Laiko Manufacturing Ltd is certified with ISO9001:2008 and ISO2200:2005, and supplies the market with quality, products according to the needs of its customers.
Kafes Laikou is an integral part of the culture and history of Cyprus and is legitimately known as ‘the golden coffee of Cyprus’. And because the growing trend of coffee consumption has also reached Cyprus, the Company is developing and growing to address the needs of today’s marketplace. A brand new state of the art coffee roaster has been to the production line at Laiko Manufacturing, with the main objective being to build on the know-how of coffee to develop speciality products in the espresso and filter coffee categories, targeting the HORECA market with new blends and custom made options for their customers.
Today Laiko Manufacturing is the biggest producer of Cypriot coffee and the market leader in this category, continuing to make history, building on the success of the last 70 years!
